We have received the following response to our letter to the VC. As the UCU will be taking a vote at national level on the 2nd of June to enter into a potential dispute, this will be on the agenda of our ExtraOrdinary General Meeting on 26th of May, and we can receive related motions. Please attend the Branch Meeting, so that we can take a branch position in advance of the national vote on the 2nd of June.
Dear Sharon and Claire,
I refer to your email of 14 May. The University of Exeter has confirmed to UCEA that we are participating in national collective bargaining for the 2021/22 pay negotiations. Higher education employers are represented in these negotiations by UCEA, which has already taken account of the views submitted by this University when developing its mandate on behalf of all 147 participating HEIs. We are open to consider moving from national pay negotiations to local pay bargaining at some point in the future and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with the campus trade unions. However, for 2021/22, we are committed to national pay bargaining and therefore fully support the final national offer, which we believe is a fair and even more importantly a financially sustainable award considering the challenges and uncertainty facing the sector as we move out of the pandemic.
We consent to you publishing this response on the branch’s website.
