This is the start of the next phase of UCU’s national campaign to secure a better future for everyone working and studying in UK Higher Education. We need to make sure that this first day of strike action in 2023 is as big as possible to remind employers that our national negotiators have the full weight of UCU’s membership behind them.

Please join Exeter UCU friends and colleagues on the morning picket lines and, in Exeter, at the later rally organised with the National Education Union (details below).

EXETER: Pickets will run 8.00-9.30am at both Streatham (Stocker Road entrance; Prince of Wales Road entrance; Thornlea main entrance) and St Luke’s (Magdalen Road entrance). We will then be moving to the town centre for a joint rally with the National Education Union. Please note that there is also a joint-TU event at 7pm at the Corn Exchange titled ‘Enough is enough! Time to Organise’.

CORNWALL: A picket will run 8.00-10am on the Tremough Campus. Later in the day there are events to join in Falmouth (a People’s Assembly at the Cornish Bank) and in Truro (multi-union rally organised by Cornwall TUC). Penryn Reps Jordina Sala-Branchadell and Elif Ozsoy have already contacted Penryn members separately about this, so do get in touch with them if you have any questions (or if you did not receive this email but should have).

If you cannot make it to a picket line, please think about how else you can show your support (e.g. by following and retweeting on Twitter; setting auto-replies to include UCU messaging on our two disputes).

And remember to use our ‘Strike 2023’ and ‘Strike 2023 Guidance’ pages to help stay up to date and find additional resources and guidance.

Solidarity!
